Leaders Serving In The Field
Our nation’s inner city communities are filled with pillars of hope. They exist in the thousands of dedicated youth workers who are committed first to Christ, second to their families, and third to bringing Christ’s love and promise to their communities. Although many are volunteers who may work another job, they are all steadfast, unmovable, and unwavering in their quest to bring love and hope to their youth.
What they are doing is working!
We all know that what works in suburbia doesn’t work in the ‘hood, what works for the majority population doesn’t work for the minority populations, and what works in the mainstream doesn’t work for those who lack access to the same resources. However, there is a lot out there in urban America that is working! UrbNet exists to promote these ideas, methods, resources, tools, inspirations, and the leaders who are making them happen.
Here’s just a sampling of feedback that we are receiving from others: "I just watched a PBS show that featured 'The House' ministry in Chicago, founded by Rev. Phil Jackson! I'm a white, middle-class, stay-at-home Christian mom, who doesn't much like hip-hop/rap. But I feel compelled to offer my thanksgiving to Jesus for supplying Rev. Jackson to the inner city community he serves. It's a brilliant tack he's taking, to present urban, Christian hip-hop to the youth he serves. Churches in the U.S. are growing and Christ's gospel is spreading because of men like Rev. Jackson, who understand the importance of adaptation to reach contemporary culture. Churches in Europe (from where I’ve just returned) are sadly stagnating and dying because of their stubbornness to change and adapt to modern times and modern youth's interests and concerns. God Bless Rev. Jackson. I will pray for his continued success and for the uplifting of the youth he serves. "Well done!" In Christ, Mary Foster "Last weekend was awesome! Our Youth Leaders are so excited, encouraged, and thankful that we were able to attend and receive so much wisdom and information from such anointed Youth Ministers. Also, to be able to meet and network with other folks who have a passion for youth is invaluable. Thank you so much for your obedience to God and your willingness to be used in the ministry of Youth leaders for such a time as this!!! God Bless ya!!" Lisa (Upper Marlboro, MD) "This is the first day I've been on line since we've been back. My co-laborers and myself have not stopped talking about the information, material, the Godly wisdom, the laughs, the tears, the networking, and the fellowship we experienced during the conference. Everyone did a great job. I thank God for your steadfastness in the ministry He has called you to. You are a true blessing to the Leaders who have been called to minister to God's precious children." Thank you for being you....Tracey (Baltimore, MD)
“ ...I began to question why I'm even here - a middle class white person with a crazy dream to bring hope to the 'hood...But your email came thru and spoke right to me, bringing back my own hope and reminding whose vision and dream it really belongs to. Thank you for ministering to my spirit...We definitely want to join the "family". Plus, some of the things you were saying have lit a few sparks of new ideas....”May God's richest blessings be upon you, Pastor Matt (Durham, NC) "Thanks for all the info. It is great. I think I will finally be able to use information that will be directed to the type of kids I'm trying to reach. Thanks again." Van Lee (Pittsburgh, PA) “It is awesome how so many of us are actually doing the same thing with the same kind of kids ... just in different cities.” Gwen (Richmond, VA)
“John, Lucretia, and I met yesterday at John's place. We had such a wonderful experience... Lucretia and I are meeting for lunch this weekend and working up a program for our youth before school. Had it not been for you, we don't think this fellowship would be. We are grateful!!!!” Love, Caroline (Atlanta, GA)
